Fields crowded for Thurston County Commission, Legislature

Filing week ended Friday with a number of local candidates coming in under the wire to get their names on the fall ballot.

The competition for Legislative District 22’s Position No. 1 turned into a five-way race. Franklin Edwards, Karen Johnson and Donald Austin joined Rhenda Iris Strub and Laurie Dolan in a race with no incumbent. Austin is the only Republican in the field of Democrats.

Meanwhile, Beth Doglio will be uncontested for District 22’s Position No. 2.

Diane Dondero joined the race for Thurston County Commission District No. 1, making it a five-way race with Jim Cooper, Allen Miller, Jon Pettit and John (Hutch) Hutchings.

Races with more than two candidates will be placed on the Aug. 2 primary ballot. All other races will be on the Nov. 8 general election ballot.
