Lighted markers to be installed to improve safety on Capitol Way
Lighted raised pavement markers are being installed Monday on Capitol Boulevard/Capitol Way between 25th Avenue and Washington Street as part of a pilot project for the city of Olympia.
The markers will provide greater lane line visibility and are expected to last for at least five years, with visibility that exceeds 1,100 feet, according to a city news release.
The installation is part of a pilot project with the University of Idaho’s National Institute for Advanced Transportation Technology and Evolution Markings. The safety devices are designed to replace traditional reflectors. The markers are LED-lighted, solar-charged and battery-operated.
City crews installed a video camera to assess vehicles as they negotiate the curve, and tests will be performed before and after installation.
