Home Buyer Resource Sharing Event: Explore how to find nonprofit education, counseling and high-quality loans. Attend the event to learn about HomeSage resources to help buyers, including USDA Rural Housing loans, Habitat for Humanity, HUD Indian Home Loan Guarantee program, Puget Sound Capital tips on improving credit and selecting the best loan, and networking with community agencies, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., USDA Rural Development Office, 1835 Black Lake Blvd. SW, Olympia. This is intended for professionals or community volunteers to learn more about resources in the community.

Tour de Mason Lake bicycle ride: A fundraising event hosted by the Karen Hilburn Breast & Cervical Cancer Fund, a chapter of Mason General Hospital Foundation. The run kicks off at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot at El Puerto de Angeles Restaurant, 2503 Olympic Highway N. in Shelton, with check-in at 7:45 a.m. for all three courses. The entry fee of $40 per person includes a commemorative T-shirt (while supplies last). Entry forms at Anytime Fitness in Shelton, or online at masongeneral.com or register at active.com. Celebrate Oakland Bay Day: This free event from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. features hands-on, family-friendly activities related to the water, land, plants and animals found in the South Puget Sound area, at Bayshore Preserve, 3800 state Route 3, Shelton. No dogs allowed. Bayshore Preserve is undergoing restoration; wear shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather and location.

The Refugee Chrisis: A report from Lesvos, Greece: Dan Leahy, a retired professor of political economy, and his wife will discuss the history of and current crisis resulting from the war in Syria. The talk goes from 12:30-2 p.m., at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 2315 Division St. NW, Olympia.

Vascular Plants of the South Sound: A lecture and book-signing in celebration of the release of a new field guide titled “Vascualr Plants of the South Sound Prairies.” More than 40 Evergreen State College students, scientists from Evergreen, Centralia College and the Center for Natural Lands Management made contributions to the project. Noon at the Washington State Capitol Museum, 211 21st Ave. SW, Olympia. Suggested donation $2.

Green Crab Science Café Awareness: The European green crab (Carcinus maenas), considered one of the world’s worst invasive species, is poised to enter Washington’s inland shoreline ecosystems. The workshop is 7 p.m. at Orca Books, 509 East Fourth Ave., Olympia. Flag Day celebration: Thurston County Veterans Council and Thurston County Realtors Association co-sponsor a Flag Day celebration at 4 p.m. at the Flag Pavilion in South Sound Mall parking lot, adjacent to Applebys. Olympia FD and LFD #3 will hoist a huge American flag. There will be an honor guard and a cannon salute.
