Elma man accused of slaying, setting house on fire faces $1M bail
An Elma man has been charged with killing a man and then setting his own house on fire.
KOMO-TV reports that bail was set at $1 million for 37-year-old Jacob Eveland on Wednesday. Eveland did not enter a plea.
Authorities have identified the man found dead outside the Eveland home on May 31 as 47-year-old Roy Jones. Jones reportedly had been house-sitting for Eveland while Eveland served 30 days in jail for domestic violence assault.
Grays Harbor County Sheriff Rick Scott said he believes the crime was committed over drug usage and theft.
Jones reportedly was assaulted with an edged weapon and a firearm.
A memorial service for Jones is set for 2 p.m. Sunday (June 12) at First Baptist Church of Elma, 600 W. Main St.
