Transformer failure cuts power south of Tumwater for 2,558 customers

Power was out south of Tumwater for almost two hours Monday morning because of problems with a transformer and distribution line, according to a spokesman from Puget Sound Energy.

Tumwater Fire units were dispatched to a report of a transformer explosion in the area of Linderson Way Southwest and Israel Road Southwest.

The outage lasted less than two hours but 2,558 customers in Tumwater were affected, according to Ray Lane of PSE.

Many schools in the area reported outages, including Littlerock, Peter G. Schmidt and Michael T. Simmons elementary schools, Bush Middle School, and Black Hills and Tumwater high schools.

Power was restored about 10 a.m.
