Officials identify teen who drowned in waterfall near Eatonville

A 13-year-old boy who drowned Sunday after falling into Little Mashel Falls near Eatonville has been identified as Jayce Rosborough.

Rosborough was walking on rocks at the base of the 125-foot falls when he apparently slipped and fell into the deep water about 5:15 p.m.

He did not know how to swim, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

Rosborough did not resurface after falling into the water. One of his friends and another man in the area jumped in to search for him, but they could not find him.

Rescuers found the teen and tried to resuscitate him, but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rosborough was underwater for about an hour.

The teen, who was from Spanaway, hiked to Little Mashel Falls with friends (ages 19, 15, 12 and 9) and the mother of one of his friends.
