First Friday: Forever Young, Olympia’s senior rock and roll choir, will perform at Unity of Olympia at 7 p.m. Rob Bradley, assistant chief of the Olympia Fire Department, will address the approaching fire season and other fire safety issues. Tumwater Fourth of July: The community’s 25th annual parade starts at 11 a.m. at the corner of Capitol Boulevard and Lee Street. ci.tumwater.wa.us.

Artesian Family Festival and Thunder Valley Fireworks Show: There will be music, games, food and fireworks, 6 p.m. at the Tumwater Valley Golf Course. Admission is free, parking is $10 a vehicle. ci.tumwater.wa.us.

Panorama Republicans: Speakers will be Michael Waite, candidate for state treasurer, and Phillip Yin, candidate for lieutenant governor. Adult Swim: Science of Eats: Hands On Children’s Museum offers playtime for adults from 7-10 p.m. The late night event for adults 21 and older is a chance to sample local bites and booze and learn about the science behind the foods we eat. Entomophagy is focused on edible insects and their nutritional benefits. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 the day of the event, and include one drink. Trauma training report: Olympia residents Dr. Leyla Welkin, Evan Welkin and Federica Faggioli will present their international project to support trauma training for refugee workers in Europe and Turkey. 7:30 p.m. at Traditions Cafe, 300 Fifth Ave. SW, Olympia. A question-and-answer period will follow.

Private garden tour: Open for one day only when the WSU Mason County Master Gardener Garden tour will showcase six private gardens in the Alderbrook neighborhood and along Highway 106. Gardens will be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Addresses and directions will be in the tickets, available at Lynch Creek Floral, Tozier’s Hardware, Brilliant Moon and the Shelton Farmer’s Market (Saturday 9-2 only), all in downtown Shelton, and Hunter Farms and the Union City Market, both in Union. Summer Guided Tours of the Schmidt House: Free guided tours of Tumwater’s historic Schmidt House are led by Bob Crim, who for 60 years has been the caretaker of the house and grounds. First Tuesday of each month at 11 a.m. Group tours are also available by appointment. The tour requires negotiating stairways to three floors and the basement. Donations accepted.
