Nigerian dwarf goat twins born at Point Defiance Zoo

Two newborn Nigerian dwarf goats are upping the cute factor at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium.

The twin sisters, which weigh about 4 pounds each, have not yet been named. People are asked to vote between Opal and Agnes, Cora and Elsie or Sugar and Spice.

Hazel, the 4-year-old mother, gave birth Friday in the Kids’ Zone area. This is the third birth for mama goat, who came to Tacoma few months ago.

Two other kids born to Hazel three years ago, Newman and Hanson, also roam the feeding and petting area of the Kids’ Zone.

“Kids’ Zone is meant to instill children with a sense of wonderment about animals, help them gain an increased level of respect for all living things and teach them about the need to protect and care for animals,” said Natalie Davis, land animal curator. “We’re elated by the birth of these goats.”

There now are 17 Nigerian dwarf goats in the Kids’ Zone.

The goats grow to be 24 inches high and weigh about 75 pounds.

Vote on the goat names at pdza.org/babygoats by Monday.
