Summer Lecture Series: This week’s lecture: “Northwest Bats, Their Habitats and Protection.” The free lectures are held every Wednesday evening during July and August. All lectures begin at 7 p.m. at the Norm Dicks Visitor Center auditorium at Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. Seating will be issued starting at 6 p.m. Information, 360-753-9467. The refuge is off Interstate 5 at Exit 114.

Music in the Park: Olympia’s annual free concert series continues with Swing 49, 7-8 p.m. at Sylvester Park.

National Night Out: The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office will participate in the local and national crime prevention event again this year. Residents, law enforcement, youth groups and businesses come together to improve awareness of crime and drug prevention. Music in the Park: Olympia’s annual free concert series continues with Blues County Sheriff, 7-8:30 p.m., at the Port Plazain downtown Olympia.

Interfaith Amigos: Part of the 1st Friday events that Unity of Olympia hosts every month, Imam Jamal Rahman, Pastor Don Mackenzie and Rabbi Ted Falcon openly address the usual taboos of interfaith dialogue. 7-8:30 p.m., at the Temple Beth Hatfiloh, 201 Eighth Ave., Olympia. This is a free event with suggested donations to the featured local nonprofit SafePlace.

Aug 6

Olympia Brew Fest: The event takes place 1-8:30 p.m. at the Port Plaza in downtown Olympia. Attendees receive a souvenir mug and six tastes, choosing from more than 30 Northwest breweries. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door, designated drivers are $5 and get all the root beer and water they can drink. Minors are not allowed. Proceeds support the Thurston County Chamber Foundation Small Business Incubator. Information: olybrewfest.com to purchase tickets or to register to volunteer.
