A man was arrested and booked into Thurston County Jail on Wednesday morning after allegedly attacking a convenience store worker, according to Lacey Police Sgt. Jaime Newcomb.

“A customer became angry while attempting to purchase items and assaulted the employee during their outburst,” Newcomb told The Olympian.

The worker was treated for minor injuries and is expected to be OK, Newcomb said.

The suspect, described as a white man in his 30s, was booked on suspicion of misdemeanor assault, Newcomb said.

The man became upset when his “bank card was denied after several attempts to purchase items,” Newcomb said. Police and fire crews were dispatched to the store in the 100 block of College Street Southeast at 8:31 a.m., according to a Thurston County dispatcher.

Another customer intervened and helped subdue the man until police arrived, Newcomb said.
