Police looking for suspects in Lacey 7-Eleven theft

Lacey police are looking for two men suspected of stealing beer and cigarettes, then fleeing from a 7-Eleven at 6125 Pacific Ave. SE late Tuesday night.

The incident was called in as a robbery around 11:20 p.m. and the department initiated a K-9 track, Sgt. Jaime Newcomb told The Olympian. While the track was in progress, though, officers watching surveillance footage saw the incident was more of a theft than a robbery and called off the track.

A robbery usually involves a weapon and/or an assault, Newcomb explained, while a theft doesn’t involve any force and doesn’t rise to the level of what the department would track.

A 7-Eleven employee at the Lacey store sustained minor injuries from falling down when he chased the suspects, Newcomb said.

Police describe the suspects in the Lacey theft as two white men. One was wearing a gray and white sweatshirt, black athletic pants with white stripes, and red shoes. The second suspect was wearing a black sweatshirt, light-colored athletic pants, and blue and black tennis shoes.

Lacey Police are asking anyone with information on this case to call the department at 360-459-4333 or Crime Stoppers of the South Sound at 1-800-222-TIPS.

When asked, Newcomb said the incident does not appear to be related to a robbery at a Tacoma 7-Eleven store early Wednesday morning.

About 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, according to a report from KIRO 7, a 7-Eleven clerk was shot during a robbery in Tacoma. Tacoma police spokeswoman Loretta Cool told The Olympian the suspect police are searching for in that case is as a 6-foot-1 black man who fled on foot.
