Suspect booked in Saturday stabbing at Olympia hotel

A fight in an Olympia hotel room escalated Saturday morning and left one man with three stab wounds, police say.

About 5:15 a.m. Saturday, Olympia police responded to a hotel on the 900 block of Capitol Way South, Lt. Paul Lower told The Olympian. The hotel manager had reported a disturbance.

A man — the suspect in the stabbing — had been invited into a hotel room by a man and woman he knew, according to Lower. The three began arguing, and the man and woman pushed the suspect out of the room and closed the door.

The suspect then kicked the door back in, and a physical fight ensued, according to victim and witness statements. At one point, the suspect grabbed a bat and the two men began wrestling.

The situation continued to escalate when the suspect pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the other man in the arm, leg, and face while they were wrestling. He then fled the hotel, Lower said.

Police made contact with the suspect at the hotel and took him into custody a few blocks away. The stabbing victim was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, a 44-year-old man, also sustained non-life threatening injuries during the fight and was transported to the hospital before being booked into jail on suspicion of first-degree assault and burglary, Lower said.
