Law enforcement on the lookout for Olympia man wearing Batman onesie
Have you seen a man wearing a Batman onesie and jeans in Olympia?
Monday morning, Washington State Patrol troopers were searching for a man with that description who’s wanted on at least two warrants.
A trooper originally contacted the man in the bushes adjacent to Interstate 5 near Plum Street Southeast around 7:45 a.m. Monday, Trooper Johnna Batiste told The Olympian.
After warning the man off of the freeway, the trooper ran the man’s name and found he had at least two warrants, Batiste said. One warrant is out of the Department of Corrections for escaping community custody, and another is for multiple charges including driving under the influence, hit-and-run, and obstruction.
The man ran when the trooper tried to contact him a second time to take him into custody, according to Batiste. The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office and the Olympia Police Department assisted in the search, which involved one of the Sheriff’s Office’s K-9s.
According to Sheriff’s Lt. Ray Brady, deputies tracked the man “for quite awhile,” toward a wooded encampment between Martin Way and Pacific Avenue. It was determined there were too many people in that area to continue the track.
Batiste said the search has been called off for now, but that doesn’t mean it won’t pick up again at a later date.
In addition to his distinctive outfit, the man is described as white with brown hair. Batiste advises anyone who sees the man to call 911 and report it.
