Have you seen this package thief? Oly PD wants your help
The Olympia Police Department took to social media Monday to ask for help identifying a package thief caught on camera on Olympia’s west side.
“Santa needs your help identifying this porch pirate to add to his naughty list. ...” a tweet from the department reads. The suspect in the photo and video appears to be a white man wearing a red and black jacket, jeans, and black sneakers.
The theft happened about 10:40 a.m. Monday on the 1400 block of Fifth Avenue Southwest, according to Sgt. Paul Frailey.
The package contained $20 worth of goods, Frailey said.
“Any theft is crime literally coming to your doorstep, and it’s an invasion of privacy and makes you feel unsafe, so we take them all very seriously,” he said.
The city’s Neighborhood Police Officer Unit recently conducted a package-theft emphasis operation in conjunction with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service that led to one arrest after a “bait package” was taken from a porch on Olympia’s west side.
Frailey, who works in the unit and supervised the city’s side of that operation, called “reducing package theft and holding those thieves accountable” the mission of the unit this December.
Anyone who can assist in identifying the suspect in this theft is asked to call 360-753-8300.
