Lacey police recover stolen truck and dog Wednesday night

Good news out of Lacey Wednesday night: Police found a pickup truck that had been stolen six hours earlier with the owner’s dog inside. The dog was still there and unharmed.

Just before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, the owner of the white F-250 pulled up near the front door at Cabela’s in Lacey and got out of his truck to see if the store was open, Sgt. Shannon Barnes told The Olympian. When the man turned around, he saw someone had taken his truck and was driving away.

The driver’s 13-year-old black lab, Harley, was in the truck’s back seat, according to Lacey police.

He had left his phone in the truck and used a passing jogger’s phone to call 911, Barnes said.

Lacey Police posted a notice on social media Wednesday asking for tips, but officers found the truck on their own in the end, Barnes said.

It was parked on the 7600 block of Hickory Stick Lane, she said, with no suspect to be seen. The rightful owner’s phone and Harley were inside.

The department doesn’t have any suspects or leads and there were no witnesses, Barnes said.

Anybody with information is asked to call the Lacey Police Department at 360-459-4333 or Crime Stoppers of South Sound at 1-800-222-TIPS.
