Yelm teen arrested for role in robbery at knifepoint, police looking for other suspect
Yelm police are looking for a local teenager suspected of robbing two other teens at knifepoint Wednesday afternoon, the department says. Police already arrested a 17-year-old they suspect set up the robbery.
Just after 4 p.m. Wednesday, officers were dispatched to a robbery with a knife in Cochrane Memorial Park on the 700 block of Mill Road Southeast, Assistant Chief Rob Carlson told The Olympian.
Two victims at the scene, an 18-year-old man with an Olympia address and a 15-year-old girl from Yelm, told officers a 17-year-old boy they know pulled out a knife and told them to empty their pockets, Carlson said. The victims told police that after they emptied their pockets, the boy punched the man several times in the face and left with three other males in a black vehicle, according to Carlson.
Police found the vehicle in the parking lot of the nearby Yelm Skate Park, Carlson said. The boy suspected of robbing the two victims wasn’t in the vehicle, but another 17-year-old boy was, Carlson said. The teen had the 18-year-old victim’s wallet, and police believe he set up the robbery.
Officers arrested the 17-year-old on suspicion of two counts of first-degree robbery and were looking for the original suspect as of Thursday morning. Carlson said the boy is known to police and not a threat to the community. Both boys are Yelm residents.
