Olympia man arrested after Home Depot robbery Tuesday evening

Police arrested a 39-year-old Olympia man on suspicion of second-degree robbery Tuesday evening, after he allegedly stole goods from a Home Depot store on the city’s east side and swung a chain with a padlock attached at a store employee.

Olympia Police officers were dispatched to Home Depot in the 1300 block of Fones Road Southeast just after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for a shoplifting complaint, Lt. Paul Lower told The Olympian.

A store employee reported that they confronted the suspect as he was trying to leave the store, and the suspect tried to hit the employee with the chain and padlock, kicked the employee, and fled down the nearby trail system, Lower said.

Police found the man on the trail with a bag of tools from Home Depot that were not paid for, Lower said, and arrested him on suspicion of second-degree robbery. He was booked into Thurston County jail.
