Suspect arrested in knifepoint robbery at Olympia apartment complex

Olympia police arrested a man Tuesday who is suspected of robbing another man at knifepoint, the department said.

About 5 p.m., officers responded to an apartment complex in the 500 block of Lilly Road, Lt. Paul Lower told The Olympian. A man had been sleeping outside his apartment in the nice weather when a man woke him up, held a knife to his throat and threatened to kill him unless he handed over his belongings.

The suspect got away with a backpack that contained a wallet and cell phone as well as a bicycle, according to Lower.

The victim was familiar with the suspect, Lower said, and so were officers. They found him about half an hour later in the 600 block of Sleater Kinney Road, according to Lower, and took him into custody without incident.

The 38-year-old Olympia man was booked into Thurston County jail on suspicion of first-degree assault, first-degree robbery, and felony harassment.
