A section of Deschutes Parkway was temporarily closed Friday morning due to an investigation into a shooting that occurred overnight near a homeless encampment, according to Washington State Patrol.

The closed area of the parkway was between Lakeridge Drive and Fifth Avenue.

About 2 a.m. Friday, the Olympia Police Department and fire department were dispatched to reports of a shooting following an altercation between two people on Deschutes Parkway, according to State Patrol Sgt. Darren Wright.

A 60-year-old man was shot multiple times in the leg. He was taken to an area hospital and is expected to survive. The suspect left the area in an unknown vehicle.

The State Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
