Grays Harbor County woman to be charged with DUI after fatal collision kills daughter
An 8-year-old girl died Thursday night when a car driven by her mother hit a semi and rolled into ditch just east of Oakville.
Washington State Patrol was dispatched to U.S. Highway 12 at Pearson Road just after 8:30 p.m. Thursday after reports of a two-vehicle collision.
According to a press release from WSP, a 31-year-old Oakville woman was traveling west on the highway with her daughter when she crossed the center line and struck a semi that was hauling cars. When police arrived, the woman’s vehicle was upside down in a deep ditch full of water.
The child was transported to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma, where she later died according to the WSP. The woman was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries, and the driver of the semi was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.
WSP Trooper Katherine Weatherwax said the woman has not been taken into custody but that charges for DUI are being forwarded once her injuries have been treated.
The incident shut down the highway for seven hours, according to the release.
