Olympia-based TwinStar Credit Union has issued a warning to customers about an email ‘phishing’ scam, according to Crime Stoppers of Olympia/Thurston County.
The credit union has received several calls from members about a scam email asking for information. The emails are not from TwinStar. The emails link to a page that looks like TwinStar’s online banking portal but is not affiliated with the credit union.
The email’s subject line reads “Alert: New message from online banking,” then tells members that “We have terminated your access to the TwinStar Credit Union Internet Banking System.” The email then directs recipients to click on the bogus link that asks for an account number, password and email address, according to Crime Stoppers.
Any potential victims of this scam are asked to call 800-258-3115. Those who receive one of these emails are asked to forward it to IT@TwinStarCU.com.
