Olympia police have located and arrested a 35-year-old man accused of shooting a man and robbing his car on Friday, Sept. 9 near Drexel House on the city’s east side.

Police Lt. Paul Lower said the shooting occurred in a parking lot near the 2800 block of Martin Way. Officers responded to the area at around 9 p.m. after a man walked into the Drexel House management office seeking help for a gunshot wound to his thigh, The Olympian previously reported.

Police booked the alleged shooter into the Thurston County jail on Tuesday on suspicion of first-degree robbery and first-degree assault while armed with a deadly weapon, according to the jail log. Separately, he also has been accused of fourth-degree assault and reckless endangerment, domestic violence.

Lower said detectives located the alleged shooter after the wounded man identified him by name in an interview on Tuesday. At the time, the alleged shooter already had been arrested on suspicion of the domestic violence crimes.

During the interview, the victim reportedly told police the suspect approached him from outside his vehicle and demanded he get out while pointing a handgun at him. He then allegedly shot the victim in the leg and drove away in the victim’s car.

The victim was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Lower said. He has since been released.

Lower said police don’t have a motive for the alleged shooting and robbery. He said it was unclear what kind of relationship the two men had.

Anyone with information about the shooting can call the Olympia Police Department at 360-753-8300.
