Thurston County deputies search for man who fled fatal fire

Thurston County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for the man who fled from the scene of a fatal fire early Wednesday morning.

Lt. Cliff Ziesemer said Aaron Myers, 39, is wanted on a state Department of Correction warrant for escaping community custody. He and Nicole McPherson, 32, allegedly started the fire that spread to a nearby home on the 3200 block of 78th Avenue Southeast in Thurston County.

When East Olympia Fire District 6 crews arrived at the scene about 2:45 a.m., the home was engulfed.

The home’s resident, 79-year-old Jack Thomas, was inside and was pronounced dead at the scene.

McPherson was arrested on outstanding warrants related to theft, drug possession and bail jumping, Ziesemer said. She is being held in the Thurston County Jail.

Detectives and fire investigators are investigating and want to talk to Myers about the incident.
