Man dead, woman in custody following Belfair shooting Monday night

A 52-year-old man is dead, and a Belfair woman is in custody after Mason County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call about 8 p.m. Monday, according to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.

The coroner has identified the victim as Joseph Gene Sedlacek of Belfair, according to Detective William Adam.

Deputies were dispatched to a home in the 100 block of Bear Ridge Northeast, in the Belfair View Estates, west of Belfair, and found Sedlacek inside the home dead from a gunshot wound, according to the sheriff’s office.

The 54-year-old woman was arrested without incident and taken to the Mason County Jail. She has been charged with homicide. Bail was set at $150,000 Tuesday.

It is The Olympian’s policy to not name suspects until after they have had an appearance in court.
