The Lacey Police Department is on the lookout for a person who broke into South Sound Behavioral Hospital with a sledgehammer early Monday morning.

Lacey Police Sgt. Jeremy Knight said officers were dispatched at 2:13 a.m. Monday, March 18, to the hospital on Woodland Square Loop Southeast to reports of a burglary in progress. He said the dispatch center advised someone with a sledgehammer had broken the front windows of the building to gain access to the lobby.

Once inside, the suspect broke several other windows and looked through different rooms in the building.

Knight said the suspect took off on foot toward Fred Meyer. A K-9 unit was called to the scene to track the suspect, but the person hasn’t been located.

Knight said the department was made aware of another recent burglary at a hospital in Marysville that had similar details.

A few hours later at 5:44 a.m. Monday, Knight said police officers were dispatched to a Providence clinic in Lacey for another burglary. He said nobody was there when police arrived, but the damage was consistent with the other two burglaries.

Knight described the suspect as being in their 30s and standing at 5-foot-9, with a slender build and sandy blonde hair. They were wearing glasses and a light blue hoodie with “Amazon” printed across the front. They were also wearing black and white Adidas-style track pants and black and white sneakers. They may be armed with a sledgehammer.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to call the department at 360-459-4333.
