An overnight high-speed pursuit ended in Tumwater with a Tacoma man in custody, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office says.

Early Sunday morning, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office received a request to assist the Napavine Police Department in Lewis County.

They were pursuing the Tacoma man, suspected of driving under the influence, on northbound Interstate 5. The Sheriff’s Office took over in Tumwater where they say the Tacoma suspect was driving about 100 miles per hour on Trosper Road.

The driver then turned around and headed back to I-5. He was slowed by a spike strip, then a deputy executed a maneuver, in combination with a newly constructed roundabout, to stop the man.

The driver was taken into custody without incident. The Sheriff’s Office says the Tacoma man has a previous criminal conviction, as well as multiple warrants along the I-5 corridor for theft, assault and trespassing.

The Tacoma suspect will now face charges for DUI and attempting to elude police in Lewis County.
