Driver jailed after motorcycle accident on SR8 near McCleary

Two people from Lake Tapps were injured and the driver was jailed Saturday after a motorcycle crash on state Route 8 east of McCleary.

The motorcycle was headed east between mileposts 8 and 9 about 5:30 p.m. when the driver failed to negotiate a sweeping curve, the Washington State Patrol said in a news release. The motorcycle left the road to the right and went down an embankment.

The driver, 43-year-old Joel Courreges, and his passenger, Tammy Mecham, 43, were transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. Courreges later was booked into the Grays Harbor Jail on suspicion of vehicular assault. Drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, the news release said.
