Olympia police arrested a 32-year-old Oakville woman Wednesday on suspicion of driving under the influence after she crashed into another vehicle on Olympia’s east side.

The incident occurred before 10:45 p.m. in the 4300 block of Martin Way East, Olympia police Lt. Paul Lower said.

Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders posted about the incident on Facebook. He said one of his deputies saw the Oakville woman driving recklessly on Martin Way as her vehicle traveled through an intersection. Before the deputy could turn on their emergency lights, the woman rear-ended another vehicle at a high speed, he said.

The rear-ended vehicle spun around and came to rest on the curb, Sanders said. The driver was treated for injuries by the Olympia Fire Department and the deputy handed the matter over to Olympia police, he said.

The deputy told Olympia police the Oakville woman swerved her vehicle through the lanes of travel prior to the crash and they suspected DUI, Lower said. Both vehicles involved in the collision deployed airbags and suffered “fairly extensive damage,” he said.

Lower said he could only describe the victim as a woman based on the information he had on hand. He said the victim reported back soreness following the collision but she was not transported to an area hospital.
