Yelm standoff suspect held on $500,000 bail
Bail was set at $500,000 for a man involved in an armed standoff Sunday night in Yelm.
Anthony Glenn Houck, 42, appeared Monday in Thurston County Superior Court. He is expected to be charged this week with two counts of first-degree assault while armed with a deadly weapon.
Yelm police were called to a house in the 15400 block of 107th Loop Southeast to assist two bail bondsmen in apprehending Houck, who was wanted on a warrant from Pierce County for a drug offense.
Bail bondsmen had gained entry to the house when four to five gunshots were fired, according to court documents. The bail agents told police they could feel the shots or debris pass by their legs.
Thurston County SWAT was called to the residence. The homeowner’s wife told Yelm police that her husband was being held hostage by Houck. The hostage later left through a bathroom window and told law enforcement that Houck was in a bedroom closet armed with a handgun, according to documents.
After obtaining a search warrant, the SWAT team was able to talk Houck into coming out of the residence, according to documents. He was arrested and transported to the Thurston County Jail.
