Boise police arrest man wanted in Thurston County on rape, domestic violence warrant
Police on Monday morning arrested a man wanted in Washington for allegedly committing several crimes, including the sexual assault of a child.
The Boise Police Department was notified late Sunday to be “on the lookout” for a 36-year-old who was wanted in Thurston County on a warrant for rape of a child, domestic violence and assault, according to a news release. He’s also under investigation for other crimes, including kidnapping and false imprisonment, the release said.
Officers arrested the man early Monday after they learned he was inside a Boise business. Officers waited for more than an hour until the man exited the store a little after 9:30 a.m., and then they went to arrest him, police said. The man cut his neck with a knife when police approached him, causing officers to use a 40 mm less-lethal round on the man for the “safety of the suspect and the officers,” according to the news release.
The suspect attempted to run away, but an Ada County sheriff’s deputy used a stun gun on him, and Boise officers sent one of their police dogs after him, allowing law enforcement to take him into custody, according to the department.
Police said he was taken to a local hospital for the injuries to his neck and would be booked into the Ada County Jail once released. The suspect then likely will be extradited to Washington state.
Boise Police Capt. Jim Quackenbush said in the news release that given the man’s violent history, officers were careful to create a plan that stopped the man from going back into the store or his vehicle, which “ensured the safety of the community and the customers in the store.”
“This is an excellent example of strong communication between our officers to both isolate a dangerous individual and appropriately deploy less-lethal tools to resolve a situation that could have ended much differently,” he added.
