Shelton police arrested two men accused of fatally shooting a man Monday night after a search that lasted into Tuesday.

Officers found a dead man with a gunshot wound at a home on the 1400 block of May Avenue in Shelton at about 10:15 p.m. Monday, according to a news release.

Shelton police had arrived at the home after a call about a reported shooting and they were joined by Mason County Sheriff deputies and Washington State Patrol troopers. Detectives with Shelton Police and Mason County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Investigative Unit arrived at the scene after the body was discovered.

Investigators identified two men as possible suspects and they began searching for them in Shelton and Mason County. Law enforcement found one of them on the 2200 block of East Johns Prairie Road, north of Shelton.

The person at that location barricaded himself in a metal shop, according to the news release. A multi-agency SWAT Team, including the Sheriff’s Office, Shelton Police and Squaxin Island Tribal Police, responded.

A stand-off lasted until at about 4:45 a.m. Tuesday and the suspect was “taken into custody without injury,” according to the news release.

Law enforcement found the second suspect at an unspecified residence within the city limits and arrested him “without incident,” they reported.

“Since both suspects were apprehended, the Shelton Police Department is confident that there is no ongoing threat to the public related to this incident,” Shelton police said in the news release.

The Mason County jail roster shows two people were booked on suspicion of homicide and burglary offenses on Tuesday.
