The getaway driver was intoxicated, Thurston Sheriff says. Here’s what happened next
A 25-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of multiple crimes, including DUI, Friday night after she drove away from a crime scene and crashed into a power pole.
That’s according to Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders, who posted about the arrest on social media. The woman was booked into jail about 10:20 p.m. Friday.
Deputies had been dispatched to Old Highway 9 and James Road Southwest in the Rochester area after a report about a hit-and-run collision, Sanders said.
“Deputies learned that a group of gang members were out tagging a fence in the area; however, their getaway driver was intoxicated,” Sanders said in his post. “Their getaway driver crashed through said fence, ended up in someone’s front yard, then crashed through a second portion of the same fence to get back to the roadway.”
The taggers then got into the truck the woman was driving and tried to leave the area, but crashed into a power pole about 500 feet away, he said. The passengers then jumped out and ran off, leaving the driver behind, Sanders said.
A preliminary breath test showed the woman had a blood alcohol level of .186, which is more than twice the state’s legal limit of .08.
In addition to DUI, the woman was booked on suspicion of hit and run, felony malicious mischief and reckless driving.
