Lacey Police were dispatched to the Safeway on Pacific Avenue at 5:40 p.m. Thursday in response to a theft-turned-robbery involving two suspects, one adult male and one juvenile male, attempting to shoplift a cart full of items.

After being confronted by store employees, the juvenile suspect reportedly flashed a handgun in his waistband at workers before exiting the store, according to Police Sgt. Jeremy Knight.

The two suspects then fled in a vehicle that was later spotted by a Lacey police officer. The vehicle failed to yield to law enforcement, prompting a pursuit down Carpenter Road Northeast. The pursuit resulted in the suspects’ vehicle crashing into a bystander’s vehicle.

Both suspects fled from the collision. According to Knight, two K9 units were deployed to locate the suspects.

The 17-year-old male was located near Eagle Drive Northeast. While he had changed his clothing, authorities identified the suspect as the same individual involved in the earlier robbery and hit-and-run.

The juvenile was arrested and booked into Thurston County Youth Services on robbery and assault charges.

The adult male driver was not in custody as of Friday morning, according to Knight. He is wanted for attempted looting and hit-and-run as law enforcement continues to investigate the incident. As of Friday morning, there is no suspect description or information on whether the adult male suspect was also armed.
