A 37-year-old man was arrested in Thurston County over the weekend on suspicion of multiple charges, including second-degree murder, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office announced late Monday.

The charges are related to the disappearance of a woman, tentatively identified as Amanda Green, in 2021, according to a news release. Green was reported missing to Tacoma police.

The following year, Tacoma police shared information with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office that suggested she may have been killed in the Yelm area.

“Detectives conducted an extensive investigation, and there was a person of interest, but not enough evidence to make an arrest,” the news release reads.

In March 2025, investigators again focused their attention on the person of interest, according to the release, and then the suspect was located and interviewed over the weekend about the woman’s disappearance.

It was not immediately clear from the news release if the person of interest and the suspect are the same person, or if the person of interest led investigators to the suspect. The Olympian reached out to the Sheriff’s Office for more information, but did not receive an immediate response.

During the interview, the suspect cooperated and led investigators to a shallow grave in Lewis County near Mount Rainier where human remains were recovered, according to the release.

“While the remains are believed to be those of Amanda, positive identification is pending,” the release reads.

The suspect has been booked into the Thurston County jail on suspicion of second-degree murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful disposal of human remains, according to the release.
