Olympia police investigate shooting at ‘Jungle’ encampment. Here’s what to know

The Olympia Police Department was investigating a shooting Friday at the encampment in the 3200 block of Martin Way East commonly referred to as the “Jungle.”

Lt. Paul Lower told The Olympian that officers were dispatched at around noon on March 6 to reports of a shooting in the encampment. He said officers found one adult male victim with a non-life threatening bullet wound to the leg.

Lower said detectives believe there was some sort of disturbance between the victim and possibly two other men that led to one of those men firing a gun. The victim was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital for medical attention.

Lower said detectives were actively working with the victim and multiple witnesses to understand what happened. He was not yet able to provide a description of the suspects. He said the suspects fled the area, and anyone with information is asked to call OPD detectives at 360-753-8300.
