Tumwater student arrested for bringing a gun and drugs to campus, police say

A Tumwater high school student was arrested on Thursday for allegedly possessing drugs and a firearm in his vehicle at school.

According to a social media post from the Tumwater Police Department, the student was allegedly selling vapes to students in the parking lot.

According to the post on April 2, a school resource officer was called by the administration at Black Hills High School on Thursday morning. They alleged there was a student on campus who had drugs and a gun in his car, and was reportedly selling vapes to students.

The SRO responded to investigate, according to the post, and found that the student did not have a gun or drugs in his possession inside the school. The SRO received consent from the owner of the student’s car for the car to be searched, the post said.

During the search, the SRO found a firearm, cash, vape products and narcotics, according to the post. The student was arrested and booked at Thurston County Youth Services on suspicion of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

“Additional charges will be referred to the Thurston County Prosecutor’s Office at the conclusion of the investigation when it is completed,” according to the post. “It has been determined that at no time were students or staff threatened with a weapon, nor was it displayed while on campus.”
