Investigators release names of deputies involved in fatal Olympia shooting
The Washington State Office of Independent Investigations released the names of three Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputies that were involved in a fatal shooting in Olympia on April 28.
According to a May 1 news release from OII, the three deputies are Jordan Goss, Marlon Wakefield, and Jacob Domeno.
Goss, 33, has been with the TCSO for 12 years and is currently a civil service deputy, according to the release.
Wakefield, 30, has been with the TCSO for seven years and is a patrol deputy.
Domeno, 27, has been with the department for one year. He is currently assigned as a patrol deputy, according to the release.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the OII Tip Line at 564-263-0728.
According to previous reporting from The Olympian, 44-year-old Lacey resident Todd Bass was killed in a shooting just after 2:40 p.m. April 28 in the 3200 block of Hoffman Road Southeast, which is near Margaret McKenny Elementary School. Thurston County deputies fired their weapons following a high-speed pursuit that ended with both Bass and the pursuing deputy crashing their vehicles, investigators said.
The pursuit was initiated after Bass was allegedly seen speeding at about 90 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone, according to previous reporting. A news release from the TCSO stated that Bass ran after the crash. Deputies reportedly ran after Bass after allegedly hearing shots in a backyard.
The deputies involved were placed on administrative leave, according to the release from TCSO.
OII spokesperson Hector Castro declined to answer The Olympian’s questions April 29 about the specifics of what happened, including who shot Bass and whether Bass was armed. He cited the active investigation and internal review process for the release of information.
OII will detail its findings in a final report once it completes the investigation, Castro said. OII, the newest state agency, has only completed four investigations in the last two years, according to its website. OII released its latest final report last month, over 10 months after the initial incident.
The Washington State Legislature created the OII in 2021 to independently investigate cases in which police use deadly force, according to the agency’s website. The agency is still actively investigating an incident in which a Lacey police officer shot and killed a man in January.
