Restaurant burglar found in Thurston Co. garage with weapons, investigators say
Mason County deputies recovered a trove of weapons at a Thurston County home Tuesday after arresting a man accused of burglary, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The 31-year-old man allegedly burglarized a restaurant in the 60 block of Southeast Lynch Road, which is north of Kamilche, at about 1 a.m. Tuesday, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office shared in a Facebook post. The agency alleges he took about $6,000 in cash, which included employee tips and cash sales collected over the holiday weekend. He was an employee at the time of the alleged theft, but he has since been fired, the post states.
Deputies tracked the man to his home in Thurston County, where he allegedly barricaded himself in a detached garage, according to the post. He allegedly refused to exit for a short time before surrendering “peacefully,” the post states.
With a search warrant in hand, deputies entered the home to look for the stolen property. Inside the garage, deputies allegedly found and seized guns, body armor, taser cartridges, ammunition and robbery kits. They also found about $5,500 in cash, which deputies believe the man attempted to hide while he refused commands, the post said.
Deputies booked the man into the Mason County Jail on suspicion of first-degree theft, second-degree burglary and multiple counts of first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, according to the post and jail log.
