Thurston Co. judge sets $25,000 bail for man accused of vandalizing WA Capitol
A 21-year-old man accused of vandalizing the Washington state Legislative Building in Olympia is being held in the Thurston County jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
Clayton Stephen Seaborn attended his preliminary appearance in Thurston County Superior Court on Friday.
The State Patrol arrested Seaborn Thursday morning after they said he allegedly smashed windows at the building, fled from troopers, and drove over a pedestrian bridge along Capitol Lake. In a preliminary estimate, the state Department of Enterprise Services said Seaborn caused about $100,000 in damage. This is the second time since October that someone has vandalized the domed building at the Olympia campus.
Judge Christopher Lanese found probable cause for several crimes and set the bail amount Friday. The alleged crimes include: first-degree malicious mischief, attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle, second-degree assault, driving under the influence, resisting arrest, and third-degree driving while license suspended or revoked. He has not yet been charged. If prosecutors do file charges, his arraignment is expected to be at 1:30 p.m. on June 12.
Seaborn has no adult criminal history and no other open cases, according to court records.
