Man killed near Olympia has been identified by Thurston County coroner
Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock told The Olympian on July 6 that the man who was killed on Friday at his home outside Olympia has been identified as 49-year-old David Poplack.
Warnock said Poplack’s cause of death is still pending.
The Olympian previously reported that deputies with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched at around 9 p.m. on July 3 to a death investigation in the 3700 block of Wesley Loop Northwest, which is west of Cooper Point Road.
The Sheriff’s Office said evidence at the scene indicated that a 49-year-old Olympia man, now identified as Poplack, died due to homicidal violence, according to previous reporting from The Olympian. The suspect was later identified as a 26-year-old Olympia man and relative of the victim, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He was later found in Longview and taken into custody by the Longview Police Department.
The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office sent out a news release on July 4 regarding the incident. The release said that the suspect suffered a medical emergency shortly after his arrest and died.
The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death, according to previous reporting from The Olympian. The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the homicide.
According to previous reporting from The Olympian, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said detectives served a search warrant on a residence in Longview where they allegedly found evidence linking the suspect to the homicide.
