Deputies to serve as resource officers in Rochester schools
Two deputies have been stationed at Rochester schools as school resource officers, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies Gene DuPrey and Steve Hamilton have been selected as the first two resource officers and will eventually work in the schools for about four hours each day. Thurston County Commissioners approved a measure Tuesday to allow the deputies to work with the Rochester School District.
The deputies will work with school staff on school safety and discipline, and serve as role models for students.
