Update: Mason County Sheriff’s department updated information to reflect that Kirton is no longer required to register. He has been relieved of that duty.

Earlier story:

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office has released information regarding level 3 sex offender, Curtis John Kirton, 62, who was registered as a transient/homeless offender but has failed to check in.

Kirton is required to register as a sex offender for a 1991 conviction of one count of second-degree child molestation. The conviction stems from Kirton pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a female between the ages of 12-13 that was known to him. On April 12, 1972, Kirton was also arrested, and then sentenced on Dec. 31, 1973 for the charge of carnal knowledge.

Because Kirton has absconded from his registration requirements, he is considered a high risk.

Kirton is described as a white male, 5 feet 8 inches and 155 lbs., with gray hair and blue eyes.

If you have any information regarding current criminal activity of this or any other offender, you are urged to call 911.
