Autopsy will determine whether there will be charges in buried infant case
No arrests or charging decisions will be made in connection to an infant found buried in a backyard near Shelton until an autopsy is completed Friday.
Mason County sheriff’s Lt. Travis Adams said detectives were interviewing suspects and potential witnesses Thursday. No one has been taken into custody in connection to the case.
Mason County Coroner Wes Stockwell said the results of the autopsy will likely be available Friday afternoon.
According to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement began investigating late Monday night after a 17-year-old female was examined at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia for an unknown medical issue. The hospital reported to Olympia police that the female appeared to have given birth sometime in the previous 24 hours, but she denied having been pregnant.
Hospital records show that she visited the hospital Nov. 4 and was pregnant at the time.
Olympia police spoke to the teen’s father, who said that his daughter gave birth Monday to a stillborn infant, and he buried the infant in the backyard.
Anyone with knowledge about this event is encouraged to contact the Mason County Sheriff’s Office and speak with Det. Jeff Rhoades at 360-427-9670, ext. 313.
