One man killed in late-night Steamboat Island car crash

A 22-year-old man died late Wednesday in a single-car crash on Steamboat Island Road Northwest, near the intersection with 79th Avenue, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

Lt. Cliff Ziesemer said the driver, who lived in the area, had been traveling north at about 11:30 p.m. when he left the road for an unknown reason and crashed into a tree. The man died at the scene and was found at about midnight.

The man was wearing a seatbelt, Ziesemer said, and speed was a factor in the crash. There is no indication that alcohol or drugs were involved.

Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock said the man has been identified, but his name won’t be released until his next of kin are notified.
