Man who died in Steamboat Island crash identified

The 22-year-old man who died in a Wednesday night crash on Steamboat Island Road has been identified as Tyler W. Smedley, according to the Thurston County Coroner’s Office.

Coroner Gary Warnock said Smedley died of several blunt force injuries to the head, neck and torso.

Lt. Cliff Ziesemer, of the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, reported Thursday that Smedley lived in the area, had been traveling north on Steamboat Island Road at about 11:30 p.m. He left the road for an unknown reason and crashed into a tree. He died at the scene and was found around midnight.
