Suspect arrested in downtown Olympia burglary

A 26-year-old man was arrested Friday after he was identified as a suspect in a downtown Olympia burglary the previous day.

The Olympia Police Department reported that surveillance footage showed a man entering a business on the 100 block of Legion Way and stealing $1,000 from two cash registers. The video showed that the thief was wearing a plaid bomber-style hat and that he had a large, sheathed knife strapped to his right leg.

On Friday, an Olympia police officer noticed a man wearing a plaid bomber-style hat and a knife strapped to his leg. The man was also wearing shoes, cargo pants, a coat, and a scarf that matched those the man in the footage was wearing.

The suspect told the officer that he had been at his girlfriend’s house at the time of the burglary, but she said she hadn’t been home.

The suspect was booked into the Thurston County Jail on suspicion of second-degree burglary.
