South Puget Sound Community College warns of scam
South Puget Sound Community College has received several reports of someone using the college’s name in a scam.
The college reports that the person has been going door-to-door impersonating a student who is raising money for a study abroad program. The person is not affiliated with SPSCC, and none of the college’s classes or programs raise money through door-to-door sales.
The individuals perpetrating the scam typically say they are media or broadcasting students selling magazine subscriptions to raise money for a study abroad trip to London. SPSCC has received reports from residents in Lacey and Olympia and are working with law enforcement agencies to attempt to stop the scam.
College officials encourage anyone who receives this type of solicitation to report it to their local law enforcement agency at 360-704-2740, the non-emergency number for Thurston County 911 Communications.
