Prescription drug deal gone awry leads to stabbing in Olympia

An Olympia man was arrested Sunday morning on suspicion of first-degree assault after a stabbing in the parking lot of Westside Lanes, according to the Olympia Police Department.

The suspect was booked into the Thurston County Jail on Sunday. He is set to appear in Thurston County Superior Court on Monday, Lt. Paul Lower said. The Olympian does not name suspects until they have been charged.

Police said the stabbing appeared to be the result of an argument over a drug deal.

Olympia police were dispatched about midnight Saturday to the bowling alley parking lot in west Olympia after a report of a stabbing. Lower said two men had agreed to meet there, and the stabbing victim planned to sell the suspect some prescription drugs.

The prescription drug deal took place in a vehicle, Lower said, but before it could be completed, the suspect pulled out a knife. The two men struggled in the vehicle; the victim was stabbed multiple times in the legs and suffered scratches across his chest.

The victim’s injuries were not considered life-threatening, Lower said. He was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital on Sunday and was thought to be recovering, he said.

The suspect was later arrested at his residence about 7 a.m. Sunday, Lower said.

Other details about the incident were not immediately available.
