Police say they don’t know why man was stabbed in downtown Olympia

Olympia police report a man was stabbed by an unknown suspect Sunday night in a downtown alley.

About 10 p.m., police and paramedics responded to reports of a man with a stab wound who had collapsed in the parking lot outside King Solomon’s Reef at Fourth Avenue and Franklin Street.

The 30-year-old victim, listed as a transient, was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital and is expected to survive his injuries, Olympia police Lt. Paul Lower said.

The stabbing occurred in an alley that runs behind the Urban Onion. The unknown assailant confronted the man and stabbed him in the side, then fled the scene, Lower said.

“It appears there was no reason for it,” Lower said of the potential motive. “The victim said the person followed him into an alley and stabbed him.”

Olympia police are investigating the case. The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic man in his 60s with a thin build and a “droopy face.” The suspect was wearing a red sweater and blue jeans.
