Police seek suspect in stabbing on Olympia Woodland Trail
A man was stabbed by an unknown assailant Wednesday afternoon on the Olympia Woodland Trail near Boulevard Road.
The victim, a man in his late 20s, was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia with serious injuries to his abdomen. He is expected to survive, said Lt. Paul Lower of the Olympia Police Department.
Police responded to the scene about 3:10 p.m. Wednesday and found the victim on the sidewalk on Boulevard Road, drifting in and out of consciousness. The stabbing occurred in an area off the trail and under the road, Lower said.
The entire trail was closed while Olympia police, Lacey police and Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputies searched for the suspect. A K-9 search was unsuccessful, Lower said.
The suspect was described as a white man of average height who was wearing a blue coat and had “pockmarked cheeks.” Detectives are waiting to interview the victim for more information, and it is unclear whether the victim knew his attacker, Lower said.
The trail has since been reopened.
